For hundreds of years, France basked in the reputation of being the world's greatest producer of wines. The main wine growing regions of France are Bordeaux, Médoc, Bourgogne (Burgundy), Champagne, Côtes du Rhone, Provence, Languedoc, Jura, Cognac/ Charentes, Loire Valley and Alsace. There are many very well known wine growing areas in France such as Bordeaux in the southwest; Burgundy in the central east; the Loire valley and the Côte de Rhone.
